FOOD FOR THE POOR

Food For The Poor is the largest international relief and development organization in the United States, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy. Founded in 1982, our interdenominational Christian ministry serves the poorest of the poor in 17 countries throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. Thanks to our faithful donors, our programs provide housing, healthcare, education, fresh water, emergency relief and micro-enterprise assistance in addition to feeding hundreds of thousands of people each day.
Since its inception in 1982, Food For The Poor has provided in excess of $10 billion in aid (more than half of which was provided in the last five years) and has built more than 84,000 housing units for the destitute. In 2012, Food For The Poor constructed 6,805 housing units for families in need of adequate shelter. Total fundraising and administrative costs in 2012 comprised less than 5% of our expenses. More than 95% of all donations go directly to programs that help the poor.
In a 2012 survey of the 200 largest U.S. charities, Forbes magazine rated Food For The Poor the sixth-largest recipient of private support. With a charitable commitment ratio of 96%, and a fundraising efficiency of 97%, Food For The Poor received the highest possible ratings from industry observers such as Ministry Watch, and is also proud to meet the extensive standards of America’s most experienced charity evaluator, the Better Business Bureau.
Our hope is that this ministry reflects God’s unconditional love, which surrenders all, inspires trust and faith, and embraces all people regardless of race, status or creed. We believe that Christ is alive, and that we can best serve Him by being of assistance to those in the greatest need (Matthew 25:31-40). Finally, we stress the need for regular prayer to guide and maintain the purity of our mission, to link the church of the First World with the church of the Third World in a manner that helps both the materially poor and the poor in spirit.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) works in more than 190 countries and territories to save and improve children’s lives, providing health care and immunizationsclean water and sanitationnutritioneducationemergency relief and more. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF supports UNICEF’s work through fundraising, advocacy and education in the United States. Together, we are working toward the day when ZERO children die from preventable causes and every child has a safe and healthy childhood.

Providing Help for Children

Progress in Saving Children's Lives

Every day, more than 19,000 children die—and they don't have to. They die from causes most people in the U.S. rarely worry about. Malnutrition. Unsafe drinking water. Lack of an affordable vaccine.
UNICEF is doing whatever it takes to reduce child mortality and reach a day when the number of children dying from preventable causes is not 19,000—it is ZERO.
We are closer than ever before, thanks to lifesaving interventions and programs that have helped reduce daily child deaths by 12,000 since 1990.

UNICEF Is on the Ground to Help Children

UNICEF works in more than 190 countries around the world. Since its inception, UNICEF has strived to reach as many children as possible with effective, low-cost solutions to counter the biggest threats to their survival.
In countries where there is overall progress, but a widening gap between rich and poor, UNICEF is doubling its efforts to reach the poorest 20%, where preventable deaths are most concentrated.
No corner of the globe is too remote for UNICEF staff to get these children the basics for survival. By plane, boat, train, truck, motorcycle, foot, donkey, camel—UNICEF uses any means necessary to provide help for children and families.

Closer and Closer to ZERO

UNICEF has saved more children's lives than any other humanitarian organization and is not daunted by war or conflict, disaster or disease, geography or logistical complexity.
We're making tremendous progress. But UNICEF will not rest until the number of children dying from preventable cause is ZERO. Any number greater than zero is unacceptable. With your support, we are certain we can provide the help for children to get there.
We invite you to join us in our efforts to save the world's children.

“As a token of sympathy, the Dalai Lama Trust is making contributions to the relief efforts of both the state and central governments,” an aide in the Dalai Lama’s office said.
Earlier, the Tibetan government-in-exile announced that it would contribute Rs.300,000 to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the flood victims of Uttarakhand.
There are fears that thousands may have died in the floods, which occurred after heavy rain and flash floods occurred in Uttarakhand June 15. Nearly 600 bodies have so far been recovered, from the swollen rivers or under debris.
The army and security forces battled renewed rains Tuesday to evacuate the 13,000 people still stranded.
